Position Overview
Cascadia Consulting Group is currently seeking candidates for its on-call roster of individuals who can be called upon to help with project-specific work on a part-time, intermittent basis. The type of work can vary but is often related to waste characterization studies and zero waste outreach. Demand for on-call work can also vary; it occurs occasionally throughout the year, may require flexible hours, or may have designated hours including weekends and evenings. There are opportunites for traveling for fieldwork up to weeks at a time.
Examples of typical on-call fieldwork tasks include:
- Engagement with the business community, property managers, and residents on environmental topics through phone calls, door-to-door outreach, presentations, and events.
- Sorting waste, recycling, and organic material to collect data for waste characterization studies.
- Data collection and electronic data entry both in the field and in the office.
- Conducting research, which could include desktop research or stakeholder interviews, and synthesizing results.
- Writing emails, reports, memos, and other project-related documents.
Required Qualifications
- Effective verbal communication skills and ability to adapt to a diversity of styles and perspectives, both in person and on the phone.
- Strong level of comfort working with technology including tablet computers.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
- Initiative, energy, creativity, and a sense of humor.
- Experience setting up sustainability programs at businesses and/or residential buildings.
- Knowledge of and interest in water and energy efficiency, sustainable building, hazardous waste management and pollution prevention, solid waste, composting, and/or recycling.
- Ability to connect with people who have personal backgrounds that are different from your own.
- Access to a personal vehicle.
- Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk on uneven surfaces for up to 10 hours per day.
- Ability to work outdoors, including in inclement weather.

- Stay home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or a hand sanitizer with at least 75% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- If you are sick with symptoms of acute respiratory illness, inform your supervisor and HR and plan to stay home
Cascadia requires employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment and show proof of vaccination, such as their CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or the vaccination record maintained by their health care provider unless requests for medical or religious accommodation are submitted and approved.
Compensation
Cascadia will compensate On-Call Environmental Fieldwork Roster staff with an hourly wage of $25+/hour, dependent on experience. Temporary staff are not immediately eligible for health benefits. Joining Cascadia’s on-call roster does not guarantee that candidates will receive a specific number of work hours, nor does it commit them to working on projects that don’t fit their schedules or skill sets. If you are selected to join the roster, you will be notified of upcoming opportunities in your area on a rolling basis.
